Awards were presented by high-profile guests such as the Fire Minister, Shahid Malik MP, Bradford City manager and former Scotland international Stuart McCall, who is one of the driving forces behind the city’s Burns Appeal, actor Ciaran Griffiths, who plays Micky Maguire in hit show ‘Shameless’, BBC Radio Leeds assistant managing editor Phil Squire, BBC Look North presenter Amanda Harper and editor of The Burning Issue magazine, Brett Tudor. The ceremony was hosted by broadcaster Steve le Fevre.

Guests also dug deep throughout the ceremony to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

West Yorkshire Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling said: “This was my first awards ceremony as Chief Fire Officer and I’m very proud to say it was a huge success and everybody had a fantastic night.

“All our nominees were very worthy, but I’d like to offer my congratulations to those who triumphed on the night. It is a real privilege to lead an organisation which has so many dedicated employees. Equally, it is heart-warming to hear so many stories of bravery from members of the public.

”Thank you to our sponsors for allowing us to hold the celebration and to all our guests and presenters for their support.”

Amongst the awards made were:

Young Hero of the Year (as voted by members of the public) - sponsored by Gartons Solicitors

Joe Green
Twelve-year-old Joe, from Sowerby Bridge, had recently listened to a school fire safety talk by firefighters when he was involved in a house fire. He became trapped in an upstairs bedroom with his mum and two younger brothers, so Joe put into practice fire survival guidance he had learned from the firefighters. He remained calm and reassured them while he dialled 999 and waited for firefighters to arrive.

Gartons are delighted to be associated with the event and thank all other supporters of the charities that benefitted.
